DR. JEFF MALISKEY

Queer Educator & Advocate

Higher education has always been important to me. As a first-generation, queer scholar-practitioner, I have always valued education and truly believe it opens doors for opportunities.  My education and work led me to a career in higher education where I found joy in supporting students in achieving their academic and personal goals. As the inaugural director of the Pride Center at the University of North Dakota, my work focuses on 2SLGBTQIA+ identity support, gender and sexuality education, and advocacy. Over the last decade, I have worked to ensure that my practice is student-centered and justice based as a mean to work towards equity and inclusion in higher education.

As a scholar, my research focuses on queer historical inquiry, providing a base of knowledge to better understand contemporary LGBTQIA2S+ experiences in higher education. My dissertation research (2022) explored the queer history at the University of North Dakota through the lens of queer resistance and student activism.
